New Orleans New Year!

John Paul Derryberry

I doubt I can wax as poetically as the street poets on Frenchmen Street about New Orleans, but there is something about this place that wakes up my imagination. It could be the pirate standing in line in front of me, or the delicious, rich and spicy food. Or maybe it’s the trumpet player in Jackson Square jamming out with a snake wrapped around him, or the street artist carving out a living without a safety net. More than likely it’s all of it put together in one place.  A place where no matter your cup of tea, there is someone in this town down to drink that tea with you.

There are moments when we need reminding of what is possible with a little gumption, a dash of spice, and a large tablespoon of risk. Well, I needed the New Orleans experience this year. Having it occur at the turn of a year where self reflection interacts with a clean slate is perfect timing. With every trip down to my favorite city, I leave exhausted and dizzy but refreshed on so many levels. I have one more day to bathe in the vibe that is New Orleans! Happy New Year everyone!
