Sunday Night With John: The Sound of Music

“John, Why do you want to marry Anne?”

“I’ve always wanted to live in a musical.”

It was a comment I made to make people laugh but that does not mean the comment wasn’t one hundred percent true. Anne loves to sing and often makes up songs around the house. People who say musicals are not realistic, because people do not break out into song randomly during the day, have never been with my wife at ten in the morning, when she creates a song out of my to-do list for the weekend or sings about our dog Marv's cuddle habits. It is one of the quirks that makes Anne special.

We all have them. We just tend to keep our quirks under wraps or we are unaware of them. Anne, on the other hand, can’t help herself. It’s one of the reasons I adore her so much. She always asks if her singing annoys me. I just chuckle and tell her to sing away. We often forget to tell our loved ones how their little habits make our lives better. How we would miss the goofball, odd and often unique traits they bring to our lives. How we do not want to face the day the music dies.

Whatever the quirks are that matter in your life, make sure that person is aware that you do not want them going anywhere. The curtain is going up on the second act of my personal musical right now, and I wouldn’t miss that show for anything.
