Sunday Night With John: A Deposit Into The Emotional Bank

As I awoke this morning, the day after my best friends wedding, I had a couple of thoughts.  Wow, that was so much fun.  My feet hurt for busting moves on the dance floor all night.  And how emotionally refreshed I feel.

Weddings are many things.  They are the start of the most serious relationship anyone can enter into, where love deepens, or comes alive again for older couples remembering their big day. Weddings can also be an event where family and friends reunite and sometimes, where drama unfolds.

Mostly, I think weddings are a great place where we can deposit a large amount of good feelings, energy, and time into our emotional banks. We are able to share long lost stories and hug each other over and over again. We get to say I love you and hear others say I love you. We see couples that have stood the test of time, share one more slow-dance together.  We remember that one time, when we did that one thing, when we were younger and had more free time on our hands.

At this weekend’s meeting of emotions, my friends and I rehashed a post college two-week cross-country road trip.   We decided it would take a minor miracle to pull it off again with our hectic schedules, let alone wanting to ride in the same car together for two weeks.  So remember to take advantage of time with your loved ones when you can.

I cried as I watched two great people begin the next chapter in their lives and I also laughed harder than I have in a while. When the night was finally over, I went to sleep feeling like my emotional health had improved 200%. I always say, every relationship has a beginning, middle, and an end.  Many people I love and care about added another great memory to the middle part of our relationships and I couldn’t be happier for it.  Below are pictures I wanted to share it with you from the event.  How have you filled your emotional bank lately?

We found each other 11 years ago on a basketball court, and over the years a great friendship was crafted. Congrats Braden.

By the power invested in my by the State of Iowa I pronounce you Husband and Wife. It was a big jolt to the old self esteem getting to make that statement.
